Early Career
Liam Asbridge has experience as a trumpet player in a range of different styles and genres. He has worked alongside many musicians, bands and ensembles playing in the U.K, the U.S.A and tours across Europe.
Based in Carlisle, Liam began his musical career with the Carlisle and Cumbria Youth Orchestras. They played classical pieces in the Edinburgh National festivals, the British Queen’s Golden Jubilee tour and, in the summer of 2001, made history in becoming the first band of their kind to tour Iceland attracting international media interest. Liam later went on to tour Italy and Germany with the William Howard Big Band. Following these successes Liam went on to play with the Cliff Eland Big Band and the well renowned and highly acclaimed Carlisle St Stephens Brass Band, making his name playing the ‘Last Post’ for Carlisle three years running for the remembrance day services.
Leeds and Cruise Work
In September 2001, Liam moved to Leeds to study Jazz and Contemporary Music at the Leeds College of Music. Since then, Liam has enjoyed continued success with a number of different Big Bands, reaching the regional and national finals in competitions with the Leeds Kippax Brass Band and working closely with the award winning Dave O’ Higgins alongside his “Biggish Band” during the Fuse Leeds Jazz Festival ’04. While In Leeds, Liam began working alongside the world-renowned violinist and Cuban Jazz star Omar Puente within his Latin Big Band, where they always received a rousing reception at their many performances across the North of England.
Liam then joined Discophonic, where he demonstrated his improvisation skills playing accompanying trumpet live
with DJ Wayne S producing a mix of contemporary jazz and house beats. Liam has also been involved with Discophonic on their studio projects.
In 2005 and 2006, Liam worked Caribbean aboard the cruise ship, the ‘Mariner of the Seas’ for Royal Caribbean, where he performed several times a night in production shows, jazz bars and cocktail parties in a nine piece show band.
Recent Experience
More recently Liam has gone into education teaching both in classrooms, for children from the ages of 4 right through to 18, and teaching brass instrumental lessons around Liverpool and West Lancashire. He has worked with members of the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra in youth projects and leading brass sectionals for the SKY Junior Philharmonic Orchestra.
Liam currently plays with several bands, performing around the country for private events, festivals and on stage at public venues. Concentrating on the musical future, Liam is an experienced award winning music teacher and who offers lessons in brass, piano and music theory.
Additional projects include working as ambassador and promoter alongside the organisers of the previously mentioned Fuse Leeds Jazz Festival and community music projects, workshops and perform with Primary Schools across the country.
